General Conference October 2011

Last weekend I had the opportunity to go to General Conference.  Thanks to my Mom being in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, I was able to go to the Saturday morning session and the Sunday afternoon session.  Not only was I able to go and hear some excellent talks given by prophets and apostles, I got to go with this awesome girl here:

General Conference was excellent.  Perhaps my favorite talk came from Elder Richard G. Scott, about studying the scriptures and making them a friend in your life.  Perhaps this hit me so hard because my scripture study the last few weeks has been minimal and superficial.  It reminded me that I need to make that more of a priority in my life.

One fun story from Conference.  After the Saturday morning session we were down in the parking garage under the Conference Center talking to my mom as she walked back to the Tabernacle through the underground tunnels.  As we were chatting, Mac Christensen, President of the Choir, comes walking up.  My mom says hello and he says "I'm going to be pulling my car out here in a minute," and walks off.  As he's going, I turn to my mom and we ask in unison why he is telling her this information.  Then it dawns on us: we're standing right night to a sign that says "Private Permit Parking Only" that blocks the way to where Mr. Mac's car is.  There is also an empty chair right by us.  We realize that Mr. Mac thinks I'm with Church Security, and was actually talking to ME, so that I could move the sign as he left.  (As a sidenote, where was the real Church Security guy?)  So I felt like I had no choice; as Mr. Mac was leaving, I walked over and moved the sign and gave him a little wave as he drove by.  I was tempted to salute, but I did not do so!
